Savage Worlds Fantasy Character Generator
(Yeah, it's not an old game, but it's very much in the spirit of one...and I really like it.)

http://www.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?p...=3062&it=1

Any SW players here? Has anyone seen this? How is it?

It looks keen...I really don't like SW character generation as much as the rest of the system because of its propensity to produce cookie cutter characters (a failing of a lot of point buy systems). A random character generator for the game would be heaven-sent, and really bring SW in line with an "old school" philosophy.

I like Savage Worlds, but I'm not sure I'd pay for this, the cost is a bit high for a PDF supplement of tables.

I'd like to know how it is...

I dunno if the cost is worth it for you, but it sure is some wonky, wonky fun...and there's an EXTENSIVE number of tables, because age is one of the things you determine randomly with it, and the older you are, the more experiences you have had, and so on, and so forth.
Because I'm bored...a sample character:

First, we roll for Race.

I get an 87, which equals Half-Orc.

Next, I roll twice on the Half-Orc fortune table. 21 gets me "Born to Survive", which bumps my Vigor up to d6, and "Large Specimen", which bumps up Size and Toughness by 1. Stout bugger.

Going completely random, I roll for Gender. 12 gets me "Male".

Hair color: 53 equals red hair. So I'm a giant, red-headed half-orc.

65 on facial hair gets me a small mustache. Must come from the human side.

80 on eye color equals "brown".

For physical features, I roll 38, signaling a Minor Flaw. A 34 on that table equals "Laugh Like A Donkey Braying".

Rolling for Stature, I get 55 which equals "Average", and thus doesn't modify my Size any further from Large Specimen.

For Age, I get 42, which equals Young Adult. That means three rolls on the two background tables, and three rolls on the Profession table.

But first, Legitimacy. A 94 means I am illegitimate, and unaccepted. Makes sense, given the race.

Rolling for parentage, my father was a Master Crafter (specifically a Ploughwright), my mother a Thief. Since I am illegitimate and unaccepted, I live with the lower class, and so I get $300 starting, as well as 2 dice to spread among Climbing, Lockpicking, Notice, Stealth and Streetwise. I'll take a d4 in Stealth and Notice each, please. Also, I can take Thief as a career path instead of whatever I randomly roll later due to this. I'll keep that in mind.

Next is family lineage. 06 says my father's family has been here as long as anyone remembers, but my mother's people arrived 11 generations ago. Incidentally, I'm going with the tack that my mother's the orc and not my father. Rolling for Emigration Reason, I get a 03...seems the orcs were escaping an earthquake when they arrived.

Parental Health: Dad is alive and well, Mom is alive but in poor health.

Parental Opinion: Dad ignores me, Mom treats me fairly.

Only rolling for siblings for Mom's side of the family, of which I have two: A brother and a sister...both are older than me.

My brother is still alive and well, but my sister died in a work-related accident. Could have involved the city guard...=P My brother treats me well.

For Home Settlement, it seems we live in a Capital City. This gives me a d4 in Streetwise. The capital city is nestled in a forest, which has no modifiers for me. My family is largely accepted in the city. Since we're orcs and half-orcs, I'm guessing this is a pretty cosmopolitan area, and we keep the thieving on the down-low.

Childhood events!

"Pet Dog", "Cuts and Grazes" and "Another Kid". Hm. Alright, seems I had a childhood pet, and my affinity towards said animal gave me the Beast Bond Edge. Also, Mom was constantly bandaging me up, to the point that I now have d4 in Healing. However, she had another kid, a daughter. Said daughter is alive and well, but refuses to acknowledge me...but is also a drain on my resources and slashes my starting cash by 10%.

Adolescence!

"Vow", "Wimp" and "Petty Thief". Uh-oh. Wimp gives me the Minor Pacifist Hindrance. I got caught doing something bad (thieving?) and made a Major Vow in front of a Priest. Rolling it randomly I get: Obedience to a Faith or Patron! Well, a roll on the Deity table gives me "Sun God". Hm...a half-orc thief in service to a Sun God? Sure not a cookie cutter, at least. Finally, Petty Thief grants me d4 in Lockpicking and an additional die in Stealth, bumping it to d6.

Instead of rolling on the table, I am exercising my option of becoming a Thief. Agility becomes d8, Smarts and Strength d6 to go along with Vigor d6. Spirit remains d4. Climbing becomes d4, Lockpicking jumps to d8, Notice d6, Stealth a whopping d10 and Streetwise rises to d6. Now, I roll for three Profession Events.

"Nosy" gives me Investigation of d4 and bumps Streetwise to d8. Acrobat Training gives me the Acrobat Edge. Minor Jobs gives me two more dice to add to my starting package! Let's put Climbing at d6 and Notice at d8.

And with that, I need a name and spend my starting cash...I begin as a Novice character for purposes of advancement...a half-orc pacifist thief in service to The Sun God...and that's a character built from the Fantasy Character Generator. From this point on, all normal rules for a Novice Half-Orc apply.
