SMITE!
SMITE: Special Magic Investigation and Tactical Engagement

SMITE! Teams are the best of the best selected from among those city guardsmen/watchmen who show exemplary talent and ability, despite the seeming prestige of the position, there are very few political appointees. Technically speaking those without the capability do not survive long enough to make the job worthwhile.

SMITE are those who go in, take down the worst threats to the cities safety, violation of law, and who dredge through the worst
of the ruin below the upper city--where dark magic, ancient gods, and other things are hidden.

You are a member of the SMITE Team. Paid too poorly for what you do, you fight anyway, the people of the city need you.

SMITE! Is something I'm working on based on 4C/MSH, albeit I'm trying to add fantasy/police procedural aspects to the system, as well as make a slight not at D&D style gaming through a slightly skewed filter.

I'm trying to come up with fewer attributes than I have so far:

Right now I have:

Fighting
Agility
Strength
Toughness
Awareness
Intellect
Resolve
Empathy

I'd like to come up something that can also be "SMITE" while still maintaining some physical-mental axiom balance. (Same number of attributes for both sides of the character)

I've considered: Strength Magic Intellect Tactics Endurance , but this isn't optimal. (Tactics covers perception in combat/surprise, and fighting. Magic covers knowledge of, skill with, and usage of magic--which will be common enough.)

Other suggestions?

RE: SMITE!
While it's nifty when your attributes can make a fun acronym, if you feel you need eight of them, I'd go with eight. No sense limiting yourself if the system doesn't do what you need it to do.
And welcome to the site, Silverlion! Glad you found your way over here. Smile

RE: SMITE!
I know this thread is a few months old, but I really like the sound of this game, and wondered if I might have a stab at stat names myself. New territory for me, but it looks like fun, so why not.

Strength or Speed
Movement or Might
Intellect
Talent (for magical or psychic abilities)
Empathy

Two on either side, and one in the middle. I was desperately trying to find something better than Speed. Movement, too. Oh well.

Could they work? ... assuming you are still going ahead with this idea, and haven't already chosen other stats, of course.

Nice. Maneuver could work for movement. I think my players have convinced me to keep the 8 attributes since they're relatively balanced, even though they don't have the simplicity of being SMITE.

Instead we have Fighting, Agility, Strength, Toughness, Awareness, Intellect, Resolve, and Empathy.

I would like to get something to Replace Agility/Awareness so there aren't two A's. Of course moving away from the original inspirations (FASERIP) would be a good thing as well.

Melee, Agility Strength, Tougness
Intelligence, Perception, Resolve, Empathy?

Of course I could be weird and call is the MASTER! System (Melee, Agility, Strength, Toughness, Empathy, Resolve, !) ditch intellect since it is assumed all SMITE members are bright (and experience tells me even dumb PC's are played intelligently, in unique ways thanks to their players.)

Use ! for the weird stuff like magic. Big Grin

I am still working on SMITE, trying to get High Valor out the door has been a hurry up and wait situation. I do get little bits done as I can.

Back after a short break (long story.)

How is SMITE! going, Silverlion, and what did you end up using?

I still have an eight attribute spread. I'd like to trim it but I'm not sure how without losing some of the flexibility and aspects (Social interactions) that I wanted to add.

I've been busy with Derelict Delvers, and hadn't had much of a chance to get SMITE worked on (Besides an article in Threat Record on the various Martial Arts.)

I'm still working on it in bits though. I started working on SMITE! Gear, things like their uniforms (armor), non-lethal devices (Blacksap, Stunrods, Nullcuffs) and their more lethal gear (Mage Staves, Blast wands, door breaching devices.)
